A tree planting exercise at Maseno university farm was organised by REREC in collaboration with KEFRI Kisumu and Maseno university. The function was officiated by REREC Board Director Mr. Ezekiel Weya. In his speech, he said REREC will continue working in partnership with other like-minded organisations in spearheading Kenya's green energy drive and in activities aimed at achievement of the Goverment's 10% forest cover target by the year 2030.In attendance were Deputy Vice Chancellor Maseno university Prof. Joseph Chacha and Director KEFRI Maseno Dr. Jared Amwatta.
Also in attendance were students and officials of Maseno University, KEFRI Maseno, REREC staff, Kenya Forest Service, Kisumu County, Kenya Water Tower Agency, among others.The University said it was looking into possible research areas on fast growing tree seedlings to enable meeting of the 10% forest cover target and ensure that enough trees are grown in the country to to meet the environmental, food, medicinal and commercial needs for the country. KEFRI and KFS informed the public that their offices were open to provide advise on issues related to tree planting.
