REREC organised a tree planting exercise in Nyeri County in collaboration with KEFRI and the County Government of Nyeri for purposes of rehabilitating Gatumbiru, Kirima & Tetu hills.
The function was officiated by Betty Maina CS nominee Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives on 27th January, 2020.
She lauded the County for having attained 38% tree cover and called upon the community to continue leading by example. She emphasized that for the country to meet its target of 10% tree cover by the year 2022, the target needs to be cascaded to county, sub county and ward levels with continuous monitoring. She called upon KEFRI & KFS to play their role by providing advisory services to communities to enable them play their role in meeting the 10% target by planting trees in their homesteads & farms for environmental, commercial and for food needs.
The tree planting exercise was carried out by staff from Nyeri County, KEFRI, KFS, REREC and the communities living around the hills. REREC donated 5,000 seedlings. Present at the occasion were Dr. Caroline Karugu Deputy Governor Nyeri, Peter Ndambiri Deputy Governor Kirinyaga, Julius Leseeto Deputy Governor Samburu, Dr. Joshua Cheboiwo Director KEFRI, among others. REREC CEO was represented by Wangari Githii, Manager Corporate Communications.
